From portrait to narrative: speculative readings
The richness of portraiture lies in its invitation to narrative. A viewer might imagine the subject as a creative professional at an intimate gallery opening, a friend at a celebratory dinner, or a media figure posing for promotional material. Each narrative reveals as much about the viewer’s cultural scripts as it does about the person pictured. That interplay — between image and imagination — is where portraiture becomes a social practice: seeing is also storytelling, and stories shape relations.
