Consent and the right to narrate oneself
The ethics of behind-the-scenes imagery pivot on consent. Who authorized the photo? Was it shared with permission? When images of performers circulate beyond their intended context — repackaged into clickbait lists or fetishized galleries — the subject’s agency is erased. Consent is not Boolean; it exists along a spectrum. A performer may consent to a promotional shoot but not to being included in a sensationalized roundup.
