The Godard Family Went Sailing And Was Never Heard From Again
In August 1999, Dr. Yves Godard and his two children rented a sailboat near Normandy, France and were never heard from again. While it initially seemed like a tragic boating accident, investigators soon started to wonder whether Godard actually murdered his entirely family – either before they set shore or after.
On September 7 – two days after his scheduled return – a dinghy from the boat washed ashore with Godard’s checkbook and jacket. Investigators started to suspect something was wrong, and checked the car he left in the rental’s parking lot. There they found significant traces of blood and morphine and moved to investigate his home, where they also found blood. The blood matched that of Godard’s wife, Marie-France, who had not joined her family on the boat.
