To make an accurate diagnosis, a skin test is performed – a sample is taken from the affected area and examined under a microscope or in a laboratory. This allows the exact type of fungus to be identified and the correct treatment to be chosen.
The most commonly used active substances are:
clotrimazole, miconazole, terbinafine, ketoconazole, fluconazole;
Typically, therapy lasts from 2 to 6 weeks depending on the severity and location of the infection.
